PM Beef Holdings is voluntarily recalling the beef trim products.

The USDA says that the meat was sent to distributors and retailers in Illinois, Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Five adults and two children were sickened between April 21 and April 28. Three were hospitalized, but all have been released.

The USDA says the beef trim was turned into ground beef sold under many different retail brand names.

“The stores currently involved include Byerly’s St. Louis Park, Byerly’s Minnetonka, Byerly’s Chanhassen and Lunds Edina. However, we can’t be certain that meat from other stores is not involved, since all of the beef used for ground beef for Lunds and Byerly’s stores comes from a single processing facility,” said Heidi Kassenborg, Acting Director of the Dairy and Food Inspection Division of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA).

Symptoms of E-coli include stomach cramps and diarrhea. It can sometimes lead to complications including kidney failure.
